Foundation Years

Foundation Years

Where Curiosity Begins and Confidence Grows

The early years of a child's life are filled with curiosity, imagination and an eagerness to discover the world. At ATS Valley School, we believe these years provide much more than a preparation for formal schooling—they establish the foundations for how children learn, communicate, relate to others and understand the world around them.

Our Foundation Years Programme provides a warm, secure and stimulating environment where children learn through play, exploration, conversation, creativity, movement and hands-on experiences.

Every experience is thoughtfully planned to nurture the whole child while allowing young learners to discover their interests, express themselves freely and gradually become confident, independent learners.

A Thoughtful Beginning to the School Journey

The Foundation Years at ATS Valley School cater to the early stages of a child's educational journey. Each stage builds progressively on the previous one, with experiences designed according to the child's age, developmental needs and growing capabilities.

Nursery

Discovering school through play & exploration

Nursery is a child's first introduction to the school environment. Our focus is on making this transition joyful, comfortable and reassuring.

Children learn through stories, rhymes, music, movement, sensory activities, creative expression, guided play and social interaction. They gradually become familiar with classroom routines while developing early communication, motor and social skills.

The emphasis is on helping children feel secure, curious and excited about coming to school.

Junior Kindergarten

Exploring ideas, building skills & growing independence

As children enter Junior Kindergarten, their natural curiosity is channelled into more purposeful learning experiences.

Through age-appropriate activities, children begin strengthening their language, early numeracy, observation, reasoning, motor and social skills. They are encouraged to ask questions, participate in conversations, work with others and make choices independently.

Learning continues to be joyful, hands-on and connected to the child's everyday experiences.

Senior Kindergarten

Preparing confidently for the next stage

Senior Kindergarten builds upon the skills and experiences developed during the earlier years and prepares children for a smooth transition into primary education.

Students develop greater independence while strengthening foundational literacy, numeracy, communication, reasoning, creativity and problem-solving skills.

They are encouraged to take greater responsibility for their learning, express their ideas confidently and approach new challenges with curiosity.

Why Foundation Years Matter

The First Years Build the Foundations for Life

The early years are a particularly important period of development. Quality early learning experiences can have a lasting influence on a child's cognitive, physical, social and emotional development. India's Foundational Stage framework also recognises the early years as a critical period in which caring, stimulating and meaningful experiences support holistic development.

At ATS Valley School, we therefore look beyond early academic skills and focus on developing the whole child.

Physical & Motor Development

Children need opportunities to move, touch, build, draw, balance and explore. Indoor and outdoor activities help develop gross and fine motor skills, coordination, balance and physical confidence.

Language & Communication

Stories, conversations, songs, rhymes, role play and classroom discussions provide rich opportunities for children to listen, understand and express themselves. We encourage children to speak, ask questions, share ideas and communicate confidently.

Cognitive Development

Young children are natural problem-solvers. Activities involving sorting, sequencing, matching, observation, experimentation and early mathematical thinking help develop reasoning, memory, concentration and problem-solving abilities.

Social & Emotional Development

Learning to share, cooperate, take turns and understand feelings is an important part of growing up. Through group experiences and guided interactions, children develop empathy, confidence, self-awareness, resilience and positive relationships.

Creativity & Imagination

Art, music, dance, storytelling, dramatic play and creative activities give children the freedom to express ideas and emotions in their own way. We encourage imagination rather than expecting every child to produce the same answer or outcome.

Independence & Life Skills

Small responsibilities can create big changes in a child's confidence. Children are gradually encouraged to make choices, organise their belongings, complete simple tasks, follow routines and take responsibility for age-appropriate activities.

Special Things We Do

Because Young Learners Need a Different Kind of School Experience

At ATS Valley School, we recognise that young children cannot—and should not—be taught exactly like older students. Our Foundation Years experience is specially designed around the needs, pace and natural curiosity of young learners.

09 / AGE-APPROPRIATE LEARNING

Every child develops at a different pace. Our Foundation Years approach provides age-appropriate challenges while giving children the time and encouragement they need to develop naturally. The objective is not to rush children through childhood, but to help them build strong foundations with confidence and joy.

THE EARLY-YEARS PRINCIPLE

Direct experiences, exploration and discovery can deepen children's learning. Our approach gives young learners opportunities to engage with concepts through meaningful experiences rather than only through instruction.

A Holistic Approach to Early Development

Learning Works Together

At ATS Valley School, our Foundation Years experience brings together multiple areas of development rather than treating learning as separate subjects.

These areas work together to help children become confident learners. Contemporary early-childhood frameworks similarly emphasise holistic development across physical, language, cognitive, social and emotional domains rather than focusing only on academic outcomes.

Wonder | Explore
Imagine | Discover

The Foundation Years are a time to wonder, explore, experiment, imagine and discover.

At ATS Valley School, we want children to look forward to learning—to feel comfortable asking questions, excited to try something new and confident enough to make mistakes and try again.

Explore with curiosity.
Learn through experience.
Express with confidence.
Grow with joy.

Because the strongest foundations are not built only by teaching children what to learn, but by helping them discover how to learn and love learning.
